A Warm Welcome from Rebecca and I.

Rebecca and I, some years ago.
In 2013, I walked into The Lane Bookshop in Claremont for a job interview, trying to act like the seasoned bookshop professional I both in reality was and was somehow simultaneously pretending to be. The owner, Anne, greeted me with a smile—and a familiar glint of colour on her lapel. It was one of Mum’s brooches, a tiny Rebecca Cool original. Suddenly, my nerves melted into a mix of pride and relief, and I couldn’t contain my broad smile: If Anne’s already a fan of my mum’s work, I immediately told myself, how badly could this possibly go? (Spoiler: I got the job, obviously.)
I’ve had more than a few times when I came unexpectedly face to face with that very familiar Rebecca Cool face. Maybe you’ve had this experience too – you walk into a West Australian home and feel instantly uplifted by a block of pattern and colour – you’ve met a new Rebecca Cool painting in the wild! I’ve had the experience of going over to a new friend’s Fremantle apartment and seeing a Rebecca Cool painting on the wall, then later looking across the street from the balcony and seeing a Rebecca Cool painting in a neighbouring apartment (a pleasant and personal low-stakes Rear Window scenario for me). For decades, Rebecca’s work has made their way into people’s homes across the nation and around the world, usually in the form of paintings but frequently too in the forms of dolls, tablecloths, calendars, water tanks, silos – really anything that Rebecca is physically capable of painting. From our McClaren street home in the 90s to her and her partner Ross’s Margaret River studio today, from galleries and exhibitions to our frenzied Facebook sales of the past (we see you, ‘SOLD’ comment veterans!) to finally this little corner of the internet, we’ve been very happy to get Rebecca’s work out there and to give each piece a new home. Whether you’re here to add to your collection or to find your first piece, welcome! Take your time, explore the store - we hope you find something you love.

If you don’t know where to start, why not here?
